Our Annual General Meeting is to be held on the 8th April at the St. Albans Children's Centre.

It is planned in conjunction with the Civic Society and St Albans Community Forest Association to plant a further selection of trees in the Playing Field. This will include a mix of species to enhance and balance the existing trees in the Playing Field. Details are to be confirmed.

Latest News

We were lucky anough to receive a generous donation of spring bulbs from one of the traders on St. Albans market. These were planted by local children on the 8th December 2004, and are now starting to bloom.

The Friends have agreed to take the initial steps towards registering the Playing Field as a town/village green. Initial work has gathered data on the “community” who use the Playing Field. Detailed questionnaires will now be completed from some of the users of the Playing Field to provide evidence of its history and community use. This is being co ordinated by Richard Rouse. The program is expected to take many months of work and is being supported by a team of volunteers.

A discussion forum with the Council Recreation Department has been agreed to map out and plan a strategy for the Playing Field.

An information board with details of the Woollams and the Playing Field’s history is being researched for planned display in the Playing Field.

The constitution of the Friends has been finalised.

The Friends have been affiliated to the Open Spaces Society.

The Friends are researching the possibility of Lottery funding for improvement of the Playing Field.

The St. Albans Childrens Centre and its staff have been very supportive of all our activities. They have provided teas at our events, and given space for our meetings. This co-operation is much appreciated by the Friends.
